2023
Ann Daniels joins the groups as a MURF fellow. She is majoring in chemical engineering at Mines. Ann will be working with Dr. Shilai Hao developing a new method for total fluorine analysis based on the HALT method.
Kiersten Wilson joins the group as an undergraduate researcher after being awarded a Phillips 66 REU in environmental engineering. Kiersten is majoring in environmental engineering with an energy minor. Kiersten will be working with Dr. Anderson Ellis on research aimed at improving treatment and destruction of PFAS adsorbed to wastewater biosolids.
Nicole Harris joins the group as a new PhD student. Nicole is co-advised by Timm and Chris Higgins. Nicole will be conducting research studying the abiotic mechanisms by which polyfluorinated precursors to PFAS are naturally transformed into perfluoroalkyl acids. Nicole received her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Towson University, where she conducted research in the laboratory of Prof. John Sivey.
Aron Griffin is awarded the RMSAWWA James B. Warner Scholarship.
Aron Griffin is awarded an NWRI/AMTA Graduate Fellowship for Membrane Technology.
Aron Griffin is awarded a Sussman Fellowship that will support a summer internship at Aquagga, our commercialization partner for the HALT technology.
Congrats to Ori Soker on successfully passing his PhD qualifying exam.
Camille Amador, PhD 2023, decides to join Alder Fuels as a research scientist.
Camille Amador, PhD 2023 in Material Science, gives the invocation at Spring Graduation.

Congratulations to Anderson Ellis on defending his PhD thesis, entitled Anion Exchange Remediation of PFAS from Groundwater Impacted by AFFF. Anderson will be continuing as a postdoctoral research associate in the group at Mines.
Congratulations for Camille “Chiqui” Amador, the group’s newest PhD graduate. Camille successfully defended her thesis, entitled “KINETICS AND MECHANISMS OF HYDRATED ELECTRON REACTIONS DURING ADVANCED REDUCTION PROCESSES” on April 12!
Aron Griffin, PhD student, Awarded 2nd Place in the Energy and Environmental Category for Mines Graduate Research Symposium presentation competition.
Aron Griffin, PhD student, was awarded a Sussman Fellowship to support a planned internship in Summer 2023 at Aquagga.
2022
Seth Donaldson joins the group as a MS thesis student. Seth earned his BS in nanoengineering from the University of California, San Diego. He will be conducting research focusing on application of HALT to PFAS-contaminated biosolids.
Caila Cassuto joins the group as a Mines Undergraduate Research Fellow (MURF). She will be working with Dr. Shilai Hao to develop a low-cost method for organic fluorine analysis.
Sean Brooks joins the group as an undergraduate researcher. Sean is majoring in chemical engineering at Mines. He will be working with Aron Griffin to study treatment and destruction of PFAS in wastewater.
Shilai Hao successfully defended his PhD thesis! Shilai will be staying with the group as a postdoctoral research associate.
